Things I like

Here you'll find some things that inspire or intrigue me, that I'm currently reading, or that I relate to on a personal and professional level.

Hearing Colours

Neil Harbisson, a sonochromatic cyborg artist, wears an 'eyeborg' over his head that translates the colours he's supposed to see when looking at things – but cannot – into sounds. I find it fascinating that colours can be represented by sounds and that his experience of life is so profoundly different (and perhaps more intense) than that of people who see colours.  Watch his TED talk in which he explains how it works here

Breakthrough in elimination of 'forever chemicals' PFAS

AUGUST 2022 | Scientists affiliated with Northwestern University and the University of California in the USA, and with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tianjin University in China, in August published an article in scientific journal Science in which they describe how PFAS can be broken down by means of decarboxylation. The research is promising in suggesting that PFAS can be broken down relatively simply by using sodium hydroxide, which could also help cut the cost of eliminating this harmful compound.
